A Letter to Myself

December 21, 2018

Dear Self,

You might be feeling overwhelmed most of the time because of the many hats you wear. Sometimes you even wear all of them at once. It's okay to take a break to breathe. Not because you have to live for others but because you have to live for yourself. You have given up a lot of your dreams, postponed a lot of plants, held back your voice because you try to protect your little ones. But it's okay to step up and speak your mind. Keep calm but firm. It's okay to get mad, get frustrated, feel defeated and helpless. You are human. Life didn't come with a manual. There is no simulation where you can practice 17 times to perfect your landing after finding out your engines have stopped. At times of adversity, you are allowed to panic but you have to pull yourself together again and start planning. You think of everyone on board your life but most importantly you have to think of your life. Explore the world before you find yourself too old and weak to do that.

I'm proud of all your achievements. You have fulfilled most of what you promised yourself back in high school. If you could only find that book or notebook where you wrote your plans in life, you'd be amazed to cross out most of them! You did not have a Jaguar at 25 but you were able to buy 3 vehicles in a span of 5 years! You may not have become a manager yet but you have managed many lives already, including yours. Don't mind what other people think. Your experiences aren't their experiences. Your struggles and your capability to handle them are very different compared to how others do it. What's important is you triumphed in every battle in your life.

Never forget who you are and how you have become this person you look in the mirror. Your parents and sisters may not be perfect people but they perfectly fit in the puzzle of your life. Your husband and your kids may take so much of your time and energy but remember that you also get your strength back from them. Always keep your friends in your heart as they have molded you to become a strong but soft-hearted person.

Life is hard. It always is. There are times when it seems easy but that's just a break time. When the break is over, your true colors shine as you face head on with all the challenges thrown at you. Don't give up. Don't loosen your grip. Use your breaks wisely. Above all, remember you are loved by God and by me, yourself. :)

Love,
Timmy
